The Challenge

Project Solar had just signed Kevin McCloud as their brand ambassador and needed to capitalise on the partnership quickly. The goal: a suite of high-impact, natural-feeling visuals that could elevate their brand presence across paid and organic channels.

But there was a catch. We had just one day of access to Kevin. And it was mid-December. In England. At a house mid-installation. With limited natural light and an already-packed video shoot to work around.

The pressure was on to not only capture the content, but to ensure it truly shone.

The Plan

To maximise time and light, we took a two-day approach.

On the pre-light day, we captured environmental and product stills while the house was quiet. This let us bank solid content before Kevin arrived, and allowed us to focus entirely on portraiture on the main shoot day.

We also invested heavily in pre-production. Storyboards and moodboards helped align the client’s vision with our creative approach, establishing a clear visual tone anchored around natural light, a subtle but powerful nod to Project Solar’s core product.

Then came the main event.

On the shoot day, our photography director worked hand-in-hand with the video crew to carve out protected time and space for stills. Photographer Tom Cox led the charge with a focus on environmental portraiture that felt warm, trustworthy, and editorial. Every detail was considered. from how Kevin was lit to how the space framed him.

Tom also handled the retouching in-house, ensuring creative consistency from capture to final delivery.

The Results

  • 40 fully-retouched final images delivered
  • Used across paid advertising and organic social channels
  • Visual language grounded in natural light—cleverly linking the ambassador and the product
  • A tight turnaround, executed flawlessly within narrow daylight hours
